Contact Lenses--Do’s and Don’ts

DO’S

  1. It is important to wash your hands prior to handling lenses to remove any excess dirt and bacteria.
  2. Clean/disinfect your lenses with the solutions dispensed and recommended by our office.
  3. Follow your wearing schedule.
  4. Store your lenses in the recommended solution when not wearing them.
  5. Remove your lenses if discomfort, extreme redness, or burning.
  6. Use proper eye protections or sun wear when needed (sun, sports, & occupational).
  7. Keep appointments for follow-up care.
  8. Always bring your eyewear and contact lenses with you each time you come to our office.
  9. Contact your doctor’s office immediately if problems arise.
  10. Keep an updated pair of eyeglasses for emergency back up.
  11. Use eye makeup designed for contact lens wearers.
  12. Have a complete visual examination once a year.

DONT’S

    Don’t...

  1. Wear your lenses beyond the recommended schedule.
  2. Sleep in your (daily wear) lenses.
  3. Shower or swim in lenses (unless using swim goggles/mask).
  4. Wear your lenses around aerosol sprays or noxious fumes.
  5. Use any products other than those recommended. (IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE DROPS LIKE VISINE OR MURINE.)
  6. Take advice of other contact lens wearers without consulting your doctor.
